Sobota nie ma być tylko dniem odpoczynku, który pozwoli nam lepiej i efektywniej pracować w ciągu tygodnia. Jak mówi Rabin A.J. Heschel (w Szabat: i jego znaczenie dla współczesnego człowieka) “Szabat jako dzień, w którym powstrzymujemy się od mozołu pracy nie jest po to by zregenerować siły do pracy w pozostałe dni. Szabat istnieje z uwagi na sens życia. To nie Szabat istnieje z uwagi na pozostałe dni tygodnia, to one istnieją z uwagi na Szabat. Szabat nie jest przerwą od życia, jest jego apogeum.”

Join us for the morning service and Torah study. This week we will read parasha VaEtchanan. We will also have the honor, the pleasure and distinct opportunity to hear Rochelle Rickoff chant from the Torah.

Saturday is not merely a day of rest, meant to help us work better and more efficiently during the week. As Rabbi A.J. Heschel says (in The Sabbath: It’s meaning for a modern man): “Sabbath, as a day of obstaining from toil, is not for the purpose of recovering one’s lost strength and becoming fit for forthcoming labor. The Sabbath is a day for the sake of life. The Sabbath is not for the sake of weekdays; the weekdays are for the sake of Sabbath. It is not an interlude but a climax of living.”

Learn to take yourself out of the ratrace, if even for one day and appreciate life and the world that surrounds you. Spend this day with us.

This week we celebrate Shabbat Nachamu, the first of seven Shabbatot of consolation following Tisha B’Av. We will be joined by Rochelle Rickoff with family, participant of this year’s Nachum Goldman Fellowship .

Zapraszamy na obchody święta Tisza B’Aw (dziewiątego dnia Aw), podczas których będziemy wspólnie czytać Megilat Eicha (Księgę Lamentacji), oraz lekcję poświęconą Megili w kontekście wybranych fragmentów midraszu Eicha z księgi Zoharu. Tym samym rozpoczniemy również post upamiętniający tragiczne wydarzenia w historii żydowskiej mające miejsce właśnie w tym dniu.

Wystawa “Śladami pamięci” zainstalowana w Żydowskim Muzeum Galicja, która jest dla nas stałym i aktualnym punktem odniesienia podczas nabożeństw i tym razem będzie dla nas źródłem do rozważań na temat współczesnego znaczenia tej rocznicy.

We will observe Tisha B’Av with reading of Megilat Eicha (the Book of Lamentations) followed by a lesson dedicated to the Megilah in the light of the fragments of the Eicha midrash from the Book of Zohar. We will thus commence a day of fast, commemorating the tragic events in the Jewish history that took place on this day.

The ”Traces of Memory” exhibit of the Galicia Jewish Musuem, which continues to be our point of reference during the services, will yet again serve as source of discussion about the contemporary meaning of this anniversary.
